INTERNSHIP
SUMMARY

Throughout the summer, I interned at Trenton Republican-Times in Trenton, Missouri. This is a small-town newspaper that prints twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. At the paper, there are three reporters as well as three people that work in advertising. We have the Green Hills Weekly which is a shopper that people and businesses can put ads in, as well as the newspaper where there is space for people to put ads. The paper covers mainly local news because it is the main interest of the people in Trenton. There were a lot of things that happened throughout my summer there. It started rocky for the newspaper itself because the place that we were originally printing at in Gallatin, Missouri decided that they were going to close due to staffing issues. We found a new place to print in Saint Joseph, Missouri which we started printing at on the first of June. Even with this little bump in the road, we were able to find somewhere else to print to keep the paper going.

Our busiest days at the paper were Mondays and Thursdays because at 11 a.m. the paper needed to be submitted to Saint Joseph to get them printed for the next day. There were some days that we had cut it close or had to let them know that it was coming in a little late because there was so much to fit in the paper. There were also days that we had to take things and save them for the next paper because we had so much news. Since COVID-19 started, they had to move to twice a week instead of every day for publishing papers. This had led to a problem with having enough room for everything from the week and getting it into just two papers. Even though they had changed to only twice a week, we still put everything from the day on the website once we had it proofread and ready for publication.
